Pregnancy Q&A

Why do I need pregnancy care?

Obstetric care is designed to ensure that you and your growing baby are healthy and safe for the duration of the childbearing cycle. Regular prenatal checkups help your doctor identify any concerns that may arise while you are pregnant. When pregnancy complications are detected, obstetric care gives you the best chance of safely delivering a healthy baby. Obstetrics includes prenatal care, assistance during labor and delivery, and maternal care during the postnatal period.

If you’re planning to become pregnant soon, pre-pregnancy medical care can help you prepare your body so it’s ready for the childbearing cycle.

What is involved in pregnancy care?

Some of the medical services involved in routine pregnancy care include:

  • Prenatal and postnatal checkups
  • Blood and urine tests
  • Prescription medications
  • Ultrasounds and other diagnostics
  • Physician-assisted delivery
  • Pain management during labor
  • Hospital admission and monitoring
  • Genetic testing

The team at Women's Wellness & Healthcare Clinic also provides you with educational materials, nutritional counseling, and additional guidance to help you understand what to expect during the childbearing cycle and to help you make the healthiest choices for yourself and your baby.

Whether you need a new medication, advice on pregnancy pains, or have questions regarding your postpartum physical changes, the team at Women’s Wellness & Healthcare Clinic is always available to help. They have the technology and equipment to deal with any complications that may arrive before, during, and after your delivery.

What conditions can pregnancy care address?

Receiving pregnancy care at Women's Wellness & Healthcare Clinic can help identify and treat many conditions. Some of these include:

  • Gestational diabetes
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Anemia
  • Preeclampsia
  • Multiple pregnancies
  • Preterm labor

The team at Women's Wellness & Healthcare Clinic are experienced care providers with advanced skills, so you can trust them to guide you safely through your childbearing journey.

What if I have a high-risk pregnancy?

If you have a high-risk pregnancy, you can still have a safe delivery of a healthy baby. However, additional screenings, monitoring, and/or labor/delivery interventions are critical for the health and safety of you and your baby throughout pregnancy and childbirth.

Many factors can cause your pregnancy to be classified as high-risk, such as:

  • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • Type 1 or 2 diabetes
  • Thyroid disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Certain autoimmune conditions
  • Some sexually transmitted diseases

If you are age 35 or older, your pregnancy will automatically be considered high risk, and you’ll need additional monitoring. However, you may not necessarily require prenatal care or labor interventions.
